Following a rough journey across the US of A and a weeklong interview, he stole the family’s heart and arrived in Napa with his wife, their cat, and everything else they owned crammed into a woody wagon. Hanging out with the late Jim Sullivan, he soon realized how special the “heart of Rutherford” and its wines were.

Sullivan has AMAZING varietal reds, and we all know that by now. They also have this best-of-the-best blend that always features an artist label, by the acclaimed Kelleen Sullivan, the founder’s daughter. Named “Coeur de Vigne”, French for Heart of the Vine. This barrel select reserve showcases the absolute very best of a harvest. Over the years, every time we featured a Sullivan, behind the scenes we were BEGGING for an opportunity to bring this wine in front of you.

Of the two neighbors, Beckstoffer Vineyards has a far wider reputation than Sullivan. Yet true connoisseurs who zoom into great appellations know that the vines on each side share an identical Rutherford Bench terroir, resulting in a signature ‘Rutherford Dust’ profile, found only in the great wines originating here, with cult names such as Scarecrow, Sloan, Quintessa, Staglin, Heitz, Caymus all in proximity.
