Like 1er Cru Chanson under $50, with points to back, and a healthy 55% off what it should be going at. Y’all know the house of Chanson well by now, we have snatched every opportunity we could from their vast catalog and this Beaune Bressandes is no exception to their promise of terroir excellence. Savviest connoisseurs and those new to Burgundy alike, today is worth stopping all you’re doing and riding that checkout button. It will pay off like a hacked slot machine, 777s guaranteed all day.
Burgundy expert Jamie Goode profiles this precious Domaine owned by Champagne Bollinger and its hotshot winemaker best: “Chanson was founded in 1750, and still occupies their original home, although they added a new gravity-fed winery in Savigny-lès-Beaune in 2010. They are a Bourgogne negociant doing things the right way. They were purchased by Bollinger in 1999. I visited with celebrated winemaker Jean-Pierre Confuron. ‘I don’t like the term negociant,’ he says because his view is that they behave like a Domaine… ‘My job is to respect the originality of each territory,’ says Confuron… I was impressed by these wines.”
What’s in our glasses is a testament to all that. Delicious from the very first sip. This wine is loaded with gorgeous fresh sweet cherry, vanilla, plum and spicy fruit flavors that are rich and velvety. Boasts a great balance with ultrafine tannins in the background, leaving you yearning for more with a long fruity finish.
This prized 1er Cru sits in the Northeastern sector of Beaune and gets its name from the original owner Jean Bressand, who was the Cistercian Canon of Beaune back in the 13th century. Compute that, almost 1,000 years of being pampered as one of the top vineyards of Beaune. Now think of the 49 bucks you’re paying to own a taste of it. You’re welcome!
But just “30 cases imported” per Wine Spectator? Don’t worry, we have another 1er Cru find lined up when this sells out, the question is how fast will that be?
93 Points – Wine Spectator
“Deep black currant and black cherry flavors join forces with violet and spice notes in this plush red. It has fine equilibrium and lingers on the finish with ripe tannins. Best from 2023 through 2038. 30 cases imported.”
