Mission Codename Fire in the hole
We are fully torqued and ready to run through a wall over here! Meyer Family returns with a screaming good Oakville offering! Their previous “Fluffy Billows” Cabernet quickly exploded into one of our most popular Cabernets EVER in 10+ years. Now the “Spitfire” is primed to take that #1 spot.
For the uninitiated, Meyer Family is a super cool, in-the-know winery, and you might recognize Justin Meyer as co-founder of SILVER OAK. After Justin’s passing in 2002 the family set their sights on revisiting Oakville Cabernet and purchased the original Bonny’s Vineyard in Oakville and nearby Spitfire vineyard as well. These wines, and in particular the Spitfire, harken back to those early Silver Oak vintages - lush and structured, highly ageable, with slightly lower alcohol than most Napa Cab.
To say this Cabernet is enjoyable is like saying the aft deck of a 135’ Sunseeker yacht in Saint-Tropez is a nice place to enjoy your quarantine. It’s sublime. The wine itself showcases pure, unadulterated fruit - blackberry, red cherry, plum, along with sweet caramel and vanilla oak undertones (Spitfire spends two years in American oak), a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg. Nothing overpowering or syrupy - think baby Silver Oak - just a pure, flat out delicious California Cabernet that stands right up to MUCH pricier Oakville Cabs - a prime definition of QPR.
Really, an absolute no brainer if you love big gun Cabernet. BUT a word of caution - there’s a near 100% chance this sells out, so please treat yourself and grab some!
