Mission Codename Dr. d'Oc
*“Bertrand has achieved a level of success that is unparalleled in the region.” – Wine Spectator
“Rugby star-turned-winemaker Gérard Bertrand boasts an impressive portfolio of Languedoc wine estates and has made it his mission to raise the profile of this oft-overlooked wine region. Ripeness, intensity and oak all figure prominently in the Bertrand style but so does organic and biodynamic farming. The top cuvées are aggressively priced, but they garner headlines for the region and pave the way for higher prices across the board…” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The “d’Oc” has never been sexier than this dear Operatives, if this were in Rhône, you’d be paying 2-3x more, even with our MASSIVE discount, getting this acclaimed cuvée down to extreme affordability!
Wine Spectator explains it all too well “In just 13 years since founding his company, Gérard Bertrand, a former professional rugby player, has rocketed to the top of the quality pyramid in the southern French wine region known as Languedoc-Roussillon. Bertrand began working the harvest at age 10 at Château Villemajou, the Corbières estate then owned by his father. He took over Villemajou in 1987 after his father’s death and has never looked back.”
Continuing to elaborate on how the quality is so high with “Bertrand personally oversees the blending of his wines, and he owns more than 660 acres in the region… Bertrand’s best wines feature distinctive, rich and pure fruit flavors without being overwhelmed by too much oak. He is a man to watch in the south of France.”
Which does not leave much else to say to us, except to advise that you grab some before the small stash we secured runs out, will not last.
91 Points – Wine Spectator
“A mouthfilling red, bursting with plum pudding and raspberry reduction flavors detailed with licorice and espresso elements. The full tannins show finesse, with spice, black tea and herb notes lingering into the finish. Carignan, Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2025.”
