Mission Codename Pop goes...
Weasels are small, but mighty little creatures. Like this wine, which has a very teeny, tiny price but a big, bad mamma jamma, easy-to-slamma personality packed with lush ripe fruit. It HUGELY over-delivers for $19 and if you need to round out a locker or two, this is the one you need. Nearly 50% off!
This cool one-off project is secret as it can be. Take that coming from Wine Spies who love secrecy but just can’t stand not knowing themselves. All we are being told from the source for this one is that this is a label that was blended at a top winery, from prime vineyards, for a pre-pandemic world of by the glass pours. When the world turned upside down, this small-batch was forgotten until we came across it.
The offbeat label definitely has a hipster vibe, but the name actually comes from an old legend. Apparently, an innkeeper’s weasel stole corks from patrons’ bottles, forcing them to finish the entire thing. You won’t need any forcing to drain this tasty blend of Merlot, Malbec, and Cabernet from Alexander Valley. They combine into a super friendly, fruit-forward, easy-drinking wine. Lush red fruits abound, with dried red cherries, red currant, and blackberries with a touch of spice and a hint of oak all flow across a medium body with balanced acidity.
Quite simply an insanely drinkable “dang I shoulda bought more” kind of bottle.
What more can we say, except try a bottle or six - if you like jammy, easy-drinking reds you’ll love it!
Oh, it comes “Highly Recommended” by Tastings.com too, while it lasts.
