Mission Codename Heaven's Reach
It seems that each time we feature a Benegas Lynch Malbec, we sell out in record time. Why? If you’ve tasted their Malbec, you’d know! These wines are among the finest Argentine Malbecs we’ve featured these last 11 years. Today we proudly present their superb 2015 Estate Single Vineyard Finca La Encerrada Mendoza Malbec for your pleasure.
Here we have a fairly dense Malbec with a garnet core that spreads out to a ruby lip. Classic! Right up front, you get a wonderful spicy note of cinnamon, which is quite uncommon. The bouquet also entreats you with notes of date, allspice, chocolate, and violets. The spice translates to the palate as well with nutmeg and cinnamon and other holiday spices. The cherry and cranberry fruit aspect mingles nicely. Argentina knows what it’s doing when it comes to Malbec and this estate-grown wine delivers some powerful grippy tannins that take you for a wild ride from start to finish. It may not be an Argentian food staple, but this wine would go exceptionally well with a generous serving of pork tamales.
This wine hails from the Valley de Uco (the Uco Valley), which is a viticultural region southwest of Mendoza, in Argentina. Located beside the Tunuyán River, the Uco Valley is universally considered one of the top wine regions in Mendoza and in all of Argentina. The annual average temperature is 57 °F and altitudes range from 3,000–5000 feet above sea level.
The region’s combination of high elevation, alluvial soils, irrigation sourced from the Andes Mountains, blesses the Uca Valley with a long growing season with over 250 sunny days a year, little rain and wide temperature differences between night and day.
These factors all provide optimal conditions for growing quality wine grapes, with excellent fruit ripening and flavor concentration, deep colors, aromas, and textures that all result in wines that are deep in color, intense in aromas and very rich in flavors.
