Mission Codename Dream catcher
Imperial no more. But fret not the day is young, so we move over to Italy for an extreme value…
Who doesn’t love drops of beautiful Tuscan sunshine on our tongues. And we REALLY love when they’re 40% off. With 94 POINTS?!
The glory of the 2019 vintage in Tuscany has arrived. It was “a stunner” as Wine Advocate reports, expanding: “what stands out most is the richness and elegant concentration of the mouthfeel.”
Sounds like they were talking about this lovely blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. It’s so friendly, so outrageously delicious, and just plain ol’ chest bumpin’ good stuff. Booming with a ripe core of dark red fruit - there’s strawberry and cherry compote, along with a little hint of wild herbs and dusty earth. The freshness!! Super legit, insanely drinkable, and a perfect way to elevate your weeknight wine rotation. Put on that “Italian dinner” Spotify playlist, whip up some Pappardelle alla Lepre and oh boy, you’re in for a treat.
James Suckling gave this a hefty 94 and has raved consistently about past vintages, describing previous ones as “Layered with ripe fruit and creamy, polished tannins. Very young, but impressive” with *“full body, plenty of oozing dark fruit”.
We’re pumped to have a bit of this to share today. After all, how many other 94-pointers can you get for $28?? NOT MANY.
Treat yourself.
94 Points – James Suckling
“A well-conceived blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc with lots of intense, ripe and sweet berry character that dominates the nose and palate. Behind that there are delicate herbal and mineral notes that will come more to the fore when this wine has lost some of its youthful, fruity exuberance. Medium-to full-bodied with well-integrated tannins and a very long, fresh finish. So tempting now, but this is well-poised for aging, which will bring out more complexity. Lots waiting in the wings here. Lovely wine. Best from 2024.”
