Mission Codename Unidentified flying obsession
HOT OFF THE PRESS: The Flying Cigar Returns With a New Vintage For One Last Flight!
It’s only fitting, on the heels of the congressional hearing on UFOs, that we bring you another vintage of this ever-popular wine.
As usual, it comes with a whopping 94 points. But, like tales of abductions, nobody will believe the otherworldly discount you got. $29?! Don’t let this rare sighting slip through your hands!
We blew through the 2015 and the 2017, then kept scratching our heads, did we skip a year? All those flashing lights and swooshing spaceships muddied our brains, so once we came back to our earthly senses it was time to beg and plead the winery for this…
Said it before, will say it again, Grahm is THE Real Slim Shady, the ORIGINAL Rhône Ranger.
We did not see this coming. An iconic Bonny Doon at an insane price, direct from the deep cellars of the mad genius himself?! The man who changed the way America drinks wine since the 80s one wine at a time, to get Wine Spectator to call him “one of California’s most innovative vintners!” And Jancis Robinson praises him as “California’s most quixotic winemaker” while Dan Berger, for Napa Valley Register says, “I view Grahm as one of the world’s most astounding wine people.” All for good reason. Because he simply is.
This vintage is exploding with basketfuls of freshly picked wild berries with dusty shrubby nuances that are a send to the Old World. Once the UFO hits the palate, the intensity builds up to stupefying levels of deliciousness, both from the fruit and savory departments of sensuality. And as it takes off into celestial skies, what lingers are echoing impressions of macerated cherries, a spice bazaar and an empty cigar box that had the Cubans lying in there just a few minutes ago. This wine is MAD good.
At the end of the day, we’re genuinely honored to be amongst “the chosen ones” for finding a celebrity winemaker’s library stash new homes. What we have here is one of the very last vintages of the flagship Le Cigare Volant as Grahm made it, because he sold his beloved winery. After the 2018 vintage, these as we’ve known, collected, and cherished them since the inaugural 1984, are discontinued.
The label reads “Red Wine of the Earth”, but we beg to differ, this is from another planet good. Like the 44% OFF given the fame and fortune before us, a true spectacle of interstellar magnitude!
Hop on this nutsy ride NOW and do it fast - or miss out again.
94 Points – Wine Enthusiast
“Deep and dark aromas of boysenberry are integrated into the tarry, wet soil, and light pepper touches on this blend of 41% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 15% Syrah, and 14% Cinsaut. The palate is intense and richer than usual for this bottling, offering dark berry, black pepper and charcuterie on the finish, as smooth tannins provide just enough bite.”
