Mission Codename Grand Theft Vino
I’m always envious of those people with metal detectors who find some awesome discovery. Like the people who found the Mojave Nugget!
But then I realized, we do find our own kind of gold nuggets.
Like this. Top shelf Reserve Napa Cab from the monumental 2018 vintage. With 94 points from Jeb Dunnuck. That was once $110 retail… And $39 from us today.
And best of all we can share it with EVERYONE. At least everyone acts quickly enough. A clean 2/3 off a high caliber Napa Cab like this always causes a stir of frenzied buying.
Grand Napa has been churning out some rock-solid wines from the heart of Rutherford, just on the edge of Inglenook Estate. They source from other top-shelf vineyards too that remain unnamed. When their neighbors include the likes of Scarecrow, Quintessa, or Inglenook you can imagine that quality is way, way up there. We’re talking about the kind of places that don’t even consider pricing their bottles under $200 (or $500…or…sky’s the limit really.) So, yea, under $40 what?
Their Reserve is a barrel select cuvée, predominantly from Rutherford with St. Helena and Coombsville playing supporting roles in the final blend, just like the 2-3% of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec in there. A classically styled Napa Cab, easy to drink with a deep core of pure black currants and plums, shaved dark chocolate, and black cherries. That classic Rutherford dustiness is prominent, along with the warm kiss of toasty and spicy oak. It’s powerful, balanced, and put together, every way you slice it. One taste and you’ll know you struck it rich. Light that grill up even if it’s cold, you’ll be warm inside once you pair this with those aged ribeyes.
Assuming it’s not sold out yet…
94 Points – Jeb Dunnuck
“Another terrific wine from Grand Napa Vineyards, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve offers lots of blackcurrants, spice box, tobacco leaf, and chocolatey nuances to go with a full-bodied style on the palate. It has the 2018 vintage’s fresher, more elegant style yet brings ample fruit and has an expansive, layered mouthfeel as well as a great finish. It’s another wine to enjoy any time over the coming 15-20 years. Drink 2021-2041.”
