Mission Codename Figeac for ya
Oooooh, Ops! Do we have a doozy today for you! 40% off a gorgeous Grand Cru Saint-Émilion! From the stellar 2020 vintage with 96 points to boot!
Château Cormeil-Figeac is one of the older properties in Saint-Émilion and actually used to be part of Figeac hence the name. With vines no younger than a half-century old, you can taste the history.
Driven by Merlot and Franc, lush as it gets! With 96 points from Decanter WWA, you CANNOT go wrong.
When siblings Victor and Coraline Moreaud inherited the property from their parents in 2011, they set out to continue the tradition while putting their own spin on things. If you’re in the area, be sure to check out their tour of the property aimed at all ages. Never too young to learn about winemaking, we think.
And it’s apparent that these two have been around the cellar their whole lives. The wine is elegant and bold with all that you’d expect from a Grand Cru Bordeaux, especially from a killer vintage like this. Per Antonio Galloni’s Vinous “Saint-Émilion is one of the sweet spots of 2020. I don’t really even know where to begin, as there are so many memorable wines.” We agree and know where to begin and end, at 33 bucks and 96 points!
This 2020 has a rich texture with a perfectly balanced structure. Black fruits, cocoa, and anise make up an enticing aroma. That leads to a ripe, lush palate loaded with plum, cassis, blueberry jam, cedar, tobacco, and sweet spices. Absolutely gorgeous stuff, begging for a rosemary rack of lamb with lemon couscous.
This wine will easily age for another 30 years! So, you should probably grab a case now before it’s out.
Seriously. Don’t wait - there’s only so much to go around.
96 Points – Decanter World Wine Awards
“A terrific effort from this estate, as well as a good value. Ripe black cherries, truffly earth, spicy wood, and tobacco all emerge on the nose, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with a round, lush mouthfeel, a good spine of acidity, and outstanding length. It’s beautifully done.”
