For the ultimate Cabernet Consesuer, this 2012 Oakville Cabernet comes from a one-acre block in Turnbull’s Weitz Vineyard! The Weitz Vineyard (also known as Leopoldina Vineyard) sits high on the Oakville Bench. Characterized by fractured volcanic rocks and degraded boulders, the scarcity of soil forces the vines to struggle and naturally controls fruit production. The fruit itself is renowned for its profound structure, elegant rich texture, and lingering acidity and minerality.
Dark red with some ruby highlights the nose is brooding with cassis, dark red cherry, dried black fruit, prunes, hillside influence, pine needle, iron ore, and barrique cask oak. The palate is massive showing intense dark red cherry, sweet cassis, ultra-refined softened tannins, and herbs. It’s layered, has a reductive quality, and shows a touch of milk chocolate through the late mid-palate. Overall it’s dry but finishes long with a savory mouthwatering element and a kiss of mint. A true masterpiece.”
