Mission Codename Words of wisdom
Savvy Ops will remember we dropped one of Brian David’s debut Pinot last year. A 94-point RRV for $27. It was one of our favorite discoveries of the year alongside gems like Lussier and Read Holland.
After months of back and forth, begging, pleading, and cajoling, we’re back with the sequel.
And it only gets better. With 95 POINTS, “an onslaught of red fruits” and a crazy low $25 price tag while it lasts.
If you’ve never heard of Brian David, you’re not alone. Advanced Sommelier who curated wine lists for 1-3 Michelin-starred restaurants under the esteemed Charlie Palmer and Omakase groups, after a stint at Napa Valley cult winery Kenzo Estate. A true tastemaker, he knows what it takes to make great wine, and he’s connected to some crazy good fruit sources. This beauty is mostly from prime sites under NDAs in Sta. Rita Hills, the Pinot epicenter down south.
This easy-drinking beauty bowls over your senses with ripe, red cherry, sun-drenched strawberries, good ol’ fashioned sarsaparilla, forest floor, and baking spices. A gentle kiss of 20% new French Oak rounds it out without running interference on the core of juicy red, blue, and black fruits, plus exotic spices. Man, it’s just so good! Easily punches way above its weight with a lush, plush, friendly style. One to stock up and drink with utter abandon. Just wish we had more to share on this quiet Saturday…
Got some? A ‘wise decision’ no doubt!
95 Points – The Tasting Panel
“Meaty notes, with an onslaught of red fruits and a core of tobacco leaf. Background notes arise, with dried roses leading the fray. Raisins and soy sauce follow, matched with a front line of acidity. Well-structured with a complexity that keeps it fresh. Outstanding.”
