Mission Codename Keeping time
We wish we had more of the purlieu but it’s gone… The good news is we do have another top shelf cab at a rock bottom price.
Allow us a pat on the back for this TOLD YOU SO moment, dear Operatives.
When we first featured this beauty, it had no reviews. What we thought was that “it’s like Bacchus himself blessed us with a gift from the heavens!”
Then came the 94 Points from The Tasting Panel, and luckily we had a few more cases stashed away.
Along those lines, “in wine, music, and life, timing is everything” says On Q Founder Steve Brady. So here we go, this steal of a Cab from OnQ wines is back for one final round. Teh same eye-popping 70% OFF!! From a producer that routinely garners such big scores from the pros… told you so! Released at $84 and yours for $25?! Complete, utter madness.
Bred from the near-perfect 2019 vintage, this stuff over-delivers big time. Former owner Steve Brady is a Napa native who loves great music and wine. He started On Q in 2012, and worked with Mark Jessup (Robert Mondavi, Opus One), and with Julian Fayard who made this, a name we know well through a resume spanning an impressive range from Lafite Rothschild to Smith Haut Lafitte, from Quintessa to Realm.
Robb Report raves that “Julien Fayard has been the winemaker of record for more than a few top-shelf Napa wines - more than 20, to be exact, including Purlieu, Brion and Covert, to name a few… In the crowded field of Napa (and Sonoma’s icon vineyards too), Fayard has carved out memorable space for his own stable of wines.”
For about the price of three droplets of those cult wines, you get a full bottle of this stuff. Black/purple in the glass, it shows a medium bodied effort full of blackberries, crushed graphite, dark roast espresso, toasted plum, and cedar. With great depth and a polished feel, it has all the character of a Cab priced 2-3x as much. At our price? It’s like Bacchus himself blessed us with a gift from the heavens!
We grabbed a few more cases for our own personal enjoyment. What’s left is all yours - until it’s gone.
94 Points – The Tasting Panel
“Black fruit, dusty slate, and herbal notes create a melodious chorus on the palate. Tannins are sleek and energetic.”
