Mission Codename So real
Sorry. This Cab does not have big scores by any wine publication.
No famous consultant winemaker either.
In fact, we had never heard of Saureel before. There’s no reason you would have either - unless you were the one who commissioned it (more on that below).
Wait. Actually, this is GREAT news. Because this wine is:
- Superbly crafted
- Utterly delicious
- Made from Coombsville fruit
- Cast from the superb 2016 vintage
OH, and almost forgot - it brings a HEAP of savings, dropping from $75 to well under $30!!
These 2016 Cabs drink like a dream right now. Remember, it’s the ONLY Napa Cab vintage that earned a unanimous 98 points from Wine Advocate, Vinous, Wine Spectator, and Jeb Dunnuck. Yes, it’s that good a year. Vinous’ Antonio Galloni attests that “Napa Valley enjoyed an extraordinary vintage in 2016. The bottled 2016s are every bit as viscerally thrilling as they were last year when I tasted them from the barrel. Best of all, 2016 is a captivating vintage from top to bottom, with a bevy of stunning wines for every palate and budget.”
Furthermore, there has not been a wine by Saureel Vineyards sold before this, nor shall there ever be. This is the only one…
This one took some research to figure out. We dug deep into the library microfiche for answers and found it in a Placerville article: *“Saureel Vineyards is a working horse ranch and vineyard. The harvest is sold so there is no tasting room or winemaking facility on the property. But Saureel envisions the property, which includes a beautifully appointed Airbnb, as an events venue that can host weddings, fundraisers, and concerts throughout the year… ‘I just want to share this beautiful place with my community,’ said venue owner Tim Sauer”.
As the story goes this wine was custom crushed at Due Vigne winery by local pioneering winemaker Ken Musso for a wedding event that never came together. A family envisioned and commissioned a knockout Napa Cabernet for their guests, Ken Musso delivered the goods, but the wine was never served (pandemic and all that). We got wind of this stash and just could not believe how this wine drinks in the $75-100+ league.
Reminds us of what Kevin Zraly once asked; “How do you make a small fortune in the wine business? Start with a large fortune…”
Fortunately for you, they hit a hole in one on their first and only shot. Bright vivid ruby colored it blooms out of the glass with gorgeous aromatics, covering the entire red to black berries spectrum. Deep notes of cassis mingle with lithe blue fruits in a plump, juicy style on the palate. Loaded with white flowers, violets, and graphite, it’s forward and opulent, yet with plenty of underlying tannin and depth. You can confidently sneak this into a cult 2016 Napa Cab blind tasting, sit back, relax, and enjoy the amazement!
So, you get access to a prime Napa Cab, WAY over 60% OFF, down to $27? Too bad we don’t have more
