Winemaker Kevin Luther has been making wine for 20 years before settling down in Sacramento and pouring every penny he had into Lucid Wines in 2017. While he continues to make more ‘conventional’ hits for Wise Villa (aka the ‘most awarded winery in North America for single varietal wines’) for the past 12+ years, with Lucid he’s all about the natural style and takes some ‘unconventional’ approaches. Like for example he aged this “on a pinch of oak, cedar, maple, cherry, cypress & hickory woods.” Cherry?! Cypress?? Are you intrigued yet?

You’re probably wondering what it’s like. Super easy drinking, vibing with free-spirited FRESH, varietally faithful fruit. More jam-packed than the Tahoe Tweezer Phish put on in 2013. But not jammy, or heavy. We loved the purity of the fruit, the balance of spices, the nuances of chocolate and vanilla.

Or you can just refer to the winery’s own tasting notes: “It’s like eating fruit, mostly berries, in a forest. But fruit that gets you drunk. So, you end up feeling sort of like a drunk bear. Blackberry, mulberry, black cherry, fig fruit flavors are followed by rich espresso & dark chocolate-vanilla notes.”
