Mission Codename Pommard-y Har Har
This is some Bizarro World madness going down today. First my cat brought me the paper. Then my wife said my Crocs looks awesome with socks. And…AND get this. Today we’re dropping a 95 POINTER PREMIER CRU BURGUNDY on your wine-addled noggins for UNDER $70.
Totally outlandish and I’m here for it! I mean, I knew Crocs looked dope with socks but was not prepared for this.
Today’s gem comes from a pioneering family of world wine. Claudine and Jean-Claude Boisset met in Gevrey-Chambertin, fell in love, bought a little vineyard (or two) and slowly built an empire of wine that 60 years later spans most of France and includes 20 brands from California as well as a bit of English sparkling! Their children Nathalie and Jean-Charles Boisset are now at the helm and appointed award-winning Burgundian Winemaker Grégory Patriat to craft the wines at Collection’s heart.
Nestled between Beaune and Volnay, Pommard is world famous for being Burgundy that is able to strike the balance of intense masculinity and sophisticated elegance. This wine leans towards “graceful and subtle” as James Suckling pointed out, with all the depth and intricacies expected from this part of the world.
The vineyard lies on the north slope of the valley in clay limestone-rich soil. The vineyard is the steepest of the appellation and provides vines the opportunity to strive and strain for nutrients leaving the fruit complex and intense. And 2019 is said to be a legendary vintage! Low yields and high concentration make for beautiful wines that any Burgundy lover will appreciate! And for 50% off, this is a no-brainer!
This is truly a crazy day and we’re so excited to be featuring this first wine from our new partnership with the Boisset Collection. Maybe going undercover at a Jean-Charles Boisset soirée was a good idea! The things we do for you, dear operatives! The allocation is not big so do not delay!
95 Points – James Suckling
“A great wine from Pommard that’s atypical for this appellation, but in the best possible way! So graceful and subtle with delicate forest-berry aromas on the nose. Stunning balance of vibrant fruit, racy tannins and mineral acidity. Ought to age extremely well. Drink or hold.
