Château La Commanderie has incredible neighbors. Smack in the middle of a crazy good neighborhood, where Grand Crus sprout like weeds. Let’s throw some names and same vintage prices out there.

Right next door is Montrose ($200+), and across a gravelly slope, you’re looking at Cos d’Estournel ($200+). There’s also famous First Growth Lafite-Rothschild ($1,000+) just across the Pauillac appellation line.

And we have this wine down to an unimaginable $28???

Okay let’s be real and set expectations right. This won’t compete with the $200-1,000 big league sluggers. It’s more like a minor league star, with off the charts QPR given the neighborhood, thanks to great terroir and an exceptional vintage doing their thing.

Nerdy fact: There are 3 Château La Commanderie in Bordeaux, one each in Pomerol, Saint-Émilion and Saint-Estèphe. So careful price checking out there as Wine Spies has the US EXCLUSIVE for this one!

An early tasting note by Decanter found a “beautifully expressive nose: rich, ripe and characterful. Freshly picked summer berries on the palate” and what we can add to that are complexity, length, and a savory edge that supplement the midpalate and finish with some bottle age. We challenge you to find another wine from the prized few appellations of the Médoc this affordable, yet this delicious.

Saint-Estèphe under $30 is a unicorn really… bet we’ll never see one again when this is GONE!
