Mission Codename G-Unit
Guarachi is so popular that our Operatives broke the website! Not to worry - we’re back and with yet another capital G Gua-raaa-chiiiiii!
Question - What has more swagger than Burt Reynolds in gator skin boots?
Answer - This Guarachi Cabernet blend!
Hard to believe, isn’t it? But it’s ALL THAT and then some.
OH! And it gets better because we brought this 98-point palate thumping Cab blend from $90 down to $45.
This hedonistic dive into the deep end comes from Guarachi Family Wines, a venture started by Alex Guarachi who came from Chile many years ago. After building a successful importing business in the US, he turned his attention toward making fine wines under his own boutique label in 2007. Since then, he’s acquired prestigious vineyards, like the Meadowrock Estate on Atlas Peak, where the fruit for this wine comes from. Up until the 2016 vintage, the talented Paul Hobbs made these for him, and he passed the torch to his former assistant Julian Gonzalez who certainly absorbed the style.
Yes, you read that right, this is a 100% Paul Hobbs made blend!
A base of 60% Cabernet provides the business up front while the balance of Merlot and Syrah brings the party out back. Together they stack the complexity and layers of warm, ripe fruit and nuanced character. Dense and opaque in appearance, with no gradient all the way to the meniscus. The nose is all about jammy berries, sweet Morello & black cherries, along with hints of dark chocolate and a floral lift of hibiscus. In the mouth, it’s a full-bodied, jam-packed thrill ride of crème de cassis, plums, and wild blackberries, pulsing with terrific secondary notes of black pepper, smoked meats, and sweet cedar. A nice tannic backbone provides an ample lattice for the fruit. Not a mild-mannered wine in any sense, and just flat-out Irresistible stuff, for real. Pair with a juicy cheeseburger, with oozing Gouda or Swiss, sauteed mushrooms & onions.
In the name of all things self-care, please treat yourself to some before it’s gone. We have PRECIOUS LITTLE to spare direct from the winery library, and the very last of it…
98 Points - The Tasting Panel
“This first release “G” from Alex Guarachi’s newest project hails from a site 1,450 feet up on Atlas Peak above the Napa Valley floor. Perfumed with jasmine, sandalwood, and leather-laced blackberry, this blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Syrah, and 12% Merlot makes a thrilling debut. Structured tannins join complex dark fruit, maintaining a combination of power and grace as dark chocolate melts to the finish.”
