Mission Codename Dem Hills!
“Today, I think it’s safe to say that Sta. Rita Hills stands as one of the greatest places in the New World to grow Pinot Noir…” – Wine Enthusiast
Be still my Pinot-loving heart! What do we have here? A gorgeously aged, Sta. Rita Hills beauty for a mere 20 BUCKS!? Is your heart rate quickening yet? Did we mention 94 POINTS?!
Nestled in California’s Central Coast in Santa Barbara County, the proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the valley corridors between Purisima Hills and the Santa Rosa Hills creates the PERFECT growing conditions for Pinot Noir. This gem from Sant Wines is a picture-perfect example of this incredible region.
And it should be considering it’s bred from three of the most esteemed vineyards in the area- La Encantada Vineyard, Rita’s Crown Vineyard, and John Sebastiano Vineyard Legendary Pinot producers like Landmark Vineyards, Siduri, WALT Wines, Paul Lato, and Kosta Browne have all discovered the magic from these vineyards and so did Sant proprietors Debbie and Greg Hammill.
On the nose, enjoy intense aromatics of cherry and red plum with touches of baking spice. Velvety tannins, bright acidity, and elegance for days! Exactly what you’d expect from this region. Age hasn’t moved the needle much on this, and it still has a deep core of ripe layers of mixed red fruit, with a touch of forest floor and freshly baked piecrust in the mix.
If you have not discovered the brilliance of Sta. Rita Hills AVA yet, you better get on this one. At this price, those in the know are stocking up!
94 Points – Wine Enthusiast
“Ripe cherries, concentrated strawberries, cherry blossoms and a bit of chipped black slate power an appealing nose on this wine by Debbie and Greg Hammill. The palate shows highly perfumed blackberries and cherries, proving quite ripe but expertly layered with clove-like spices and dried purple flowers.”
