This southeast facing steeply sloped Sonoma Coast vineyard is nestled in the redwoods at the corner of Joy Road and Fitzpatrick Lane near Occidental. The vineyard is located approximately 7 miles from the ocean, and in 1998 was replanted to Pinot Noir with Pommard & Dijon clones. The steep rocky terrain and low yields farming make the farming of this vineyard labor of love, but the consistently low alcohol and incredibly nuanced flavors make the wines from this vineyard much sought after by Burgundy lovers.
This definitive Sonoma Coast Pinot is clear medium garnet in the glass and has an aroma reminiscent of ripe black cherry with a slight floral character. The wine has a medium body with a complex structure with flavors of elegant dark fruit that leads to a mid-palate of black cherry, blackberry, and barrel spice. The finish is balanced with well-integrated fruit, solid acidity, and notes of oak with soft tannins.
