The history of growing Bordeaux varieties in Italy goes back for centuries, but it wasn’t until the 1970’s that anyone noticed internationally. The story of how Super-Tuscans evolved is that of legend, with entire books devoted to the subject. These Tuscan wines typically highlight a Bordeaux variety all by itself or blended with Sangiovese. Gemellaia is a barrel selection from our finest lots in the winery. Super-Tuscan inspired, it melds Sangiovese’s acid and tannin structure with the soft, generous fruit of Merlot from two special vineyards.
Place of the twins. Synergy. On the nose there are mocha, mushroom, and herbaceous impressions. Within her layers are eucalyptus, cured meat and dried blueberry. A wine that makes you salivate in the same way that a canine would right before supper. Texturally, she is powerful yet plush. Her tannins are balanced by an alluring silkiness. Blue and red fruits lead on the palate. Chocolate ganache, roasted ortegas and leather add intrigue. She is approachable and complex; age-worthy and available. Enjoy this wine with the finer, more poignant moments in life, like watching the kids play tag in the yard before a setting sun.
