Mission Codename The Paradox
- Fuel efficient mega-SUVs.
- Affordable tropical paradise vacations.
- Delicious plant-based burgers.
- Teens who clean up after themselves.
- $15 white Burg that drinks like a dream.
Obviously, such paradoxes do not exist.
But wait. What is THIS?! Scratch that last one!
It exists! A 2017 no less! Vintage of the century!? Leave it to Stephen Tanzer who declares for Vinous “the ‘17s stand out for their fresh, pure stone, orchard and citrus fruits and their charm”
We went NUTS over this one. And bought enough to supply a small army. FOR YOU. To drink with restless abandon, till you can’t drink anymore. Monday? With pasta. Taco Tuesday? Yes, please. Wednesday? Why not. How about Thursday? With sushi of course. TGIF? Open two and deglaze your pan with one. Over the weekend? Chill a case down and invite every wine lover you know for a BYOO (bring your own oysters) party. But don’t tell them how affordable it was if you want them to come back again, as they’ll keep asking about it.
Your house white for the next year is here!
Out of mere curiosity, we looked up the most one could spend on a 2017 White Burgundy, and that award goes to the 2017 DRC Montrachet, that’ll set you back $15k a pop, not making it up. That’s a THOUSAND X $15.
Who are these people, anyway? Domaine de la Belouse is a negociant in the Mâconnais, made by Cedric “Monsieur Mâcon” Chêne who’s a 5th generation winemaker for his better-known family Domaine. And yes, his last name is oak in French, being from a family drenched in wine. With the recent recognition of Pouilly-Fuissé’s Premier Cru status, great whites from the Mâconnais continue to climb in reputation and price, making insane deals from this region extra hot, like the one you’re looking at.
Ratings and reviews? There are none. Just a massive endorsement from us. The lesser 2018 got the raves from Wine Enthusiast though, described as “a soft, ripe, yellow-fruit-flavored wine. Its gentle structure is filled out with rounded fruits, a touch of acidity, and an orange-zest tangy aftertaste.” Add a ZING that only 2017 can offer, dial up the fruit-o-meter to a robust 10/11 and enjoy the creamy ride.
We’re using tie-downs to keep the bottles from falling out of our trunks on the way home.
Let’s ride the wave while we can!
