Mission Codename Angelic dancer
Major score! An immensely appealing, little-known discovery awaits you. Normally $100, but yours today for 60% OFF. That’s like handing over 40 bucks alongside a cult Cab.
Truthfully though, this was a minor score.
Because we have VERY little to go around. It’s sold out on their website and available NOWHERE else. We have the very last few cases available. The entire production of Amoenus Vineyard is shared between Maybach, Turnbull, and Arkenstone only these days.
This is the epitome of a local’s only find. A tiny production (500 cases TOTAL) winery, making some dead-serious juice and turning it out for a price that’s plain silly. You’ll understand the moment it hits your lips. Apsara’s vineyard sources include Amoenus and Kenefick Ranch in Calistoga, Las Madres in Carneros, and Kick Ranch on the Sonoma side. Working with some of the best fruit around, really.
Apsara is the realization of a shared dream between Robin Akhurst and his wife Aneeta. Akhurst has quite the resume behind him. Before he went into full winemaking mode he learned the ropes at some pretty big names - Domaine Leflaive, Two Hands, and Outpost. He worked with Thomas Rivers Brown and Nils Venge. Then a stint at Carter Cellars in 2009, and as winemaker at Envy for five years before he started at Apsara. Oh, he also makes Swanson and Clos Pegase, by the way!
Phew! But the pinnacle of his experience is right here, in his own carefully tended wines.
Lively and luscious, it’s flush with forward ripe fruit, spices, and minerality, plus the acidity to move it along. No expense spared; this gets the ‘first-born-child’ treatment you’d expect on such a small scale. Only two barrels were made of this wine, and 100% new French oak was used. You can taste the toasty sweet oak, but it blends nicely with blackberry pie, boysenberry jam, cassis, vanilla, and gorgeous, sweet violets. It’s plush, soft, expansive, and a belly-warming delight from start to finish.
With so little made, it’s amazing we have any. First come, first served!
