Mission Codename More and more
This is THE ONE. The FIRST EVER 100% Ross Cobb made Furthermore.
Does that explain the 96 point score?! You betcha it does. All 2019 Cobb Pinots earned 95-98 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate “offering exceptional elegance, brightness, purity, the energy and concentration to age a decade or more in the cellar”.
But they retail for $80-125 per bottle.
And according to Antonio Galloni’s Vinous Cobb makes “some of the most beguiling, transparent Pinots in all of California” - TRUTH, as you just can’t make this stuff up.
The only other projects Cobb currently makes besides his own are Claypool and Furthermore.
Ross Cobb planted Coastlands Vineyard, fame and fortune followed. While he obsessively perfected his pristine family fruit that Williams Selyem, Arnot-Roberts, Siduri, and Banshee clamored for, he went on as a viticulturist and enologist at Flowers and Williams Selyem before starting his own label in 2001.
The highly cultured, Pinot intelligentsia will appreciate everything about this wine. Firstly, this estate vineyard sits right next to Paul Hobbs’ Lindsay Estate where the finished product fetches $100+ a pop – IF you can score an allocation. It’s a perfect climate for the grape, and 2019 was a near-perfect vintage.
Beautiful as ever, it shows a perfect balance of richness and elegance. Highly perfumed, and expressive with ripe cherry, rose petals, baking spices, and forest floor on the nose. On the palate, it serves up red licorice, sweet raspberry, cherry, and those lovely secondary notes of baking spices, black tea leaf, tilled earth, and toasty oak. Ripe, refreshing, and all but guaranteed to leave you smiling. Pairing this with aged cheeses, charcuterie, or a rustic dish centered around wild mushrooms will lead to elation.
Of course, the price will also leave you smiling. From an already reasonable $50 to a much friendlier $39. Here today, gone tomorrow. There ya go - have a great Friday and a happy weekend y’all!
96 Points – Sonoma County Harvest Fair
“Double Gold Medal and “Best Red” winner! Juicy black and red cherry bring down the house with this wine. Elegant cinnamon and baking spice notes from the barrel integrate well with the rich and bright red fruit, together making this a great example and expression of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir.”
