Mission Codename Pink above the clouds
Over the 3 decades as their winemaker, Philip Titus never made a rosé for Pritchard Hill’s iconic Chappellet. Nor does he for his family label, Titus.
He saves all his PINK energy for this 93-pointer overachiever beauty. The Attelas Vineyard sits at 1,300 feet elevation on Atlas Peak surrounded by Antinori’s Antica, Guarachi, Krupp Brothers, and Beau Vigne. As the source of this pure Merlot rosé, this intense fruit takes things on OVERDRIVE. Since less than 3% of all of Napa Valley wines come from attitudes over 1,000 feet, this HAS TO BE the only rosé of its kind.
No wonder it’s the highest rated Acumen ever for Wine Enthusiast famous as they are for their reds. Highlighting ‘Napa’s Mountain Appellations’ they rave “the high-profile project Acumen Wines founded in 2012 by Eric Yuan. Formerly part of Krupp Family Vineyard, it’s a high-elevation, rocky site six miles off the Silverado Trail and above the fog line… 32 acres, now known as Attelas, are certified organic.”
Acumen was started by Eric Yuan with a singular goal: to make killer mountain wines from this rugged terrain. Forbes called them “a shining new star” and for the past decade, they’ve gained serious recognition for their classically styled, powerful mountain wines. Their roster of former winemakers is a Who’s Who of Napa all-stars - Denis Malbec, Henrik Poulsen, and Philip Titus, all churning one stunner after another from this special mountaintop.
Aromatically and flavor-wise it’s intense. No, make that electric. Zippy acidity, explosive cranberries, red raspberries, floral and mineral depth, serious grip, playful energy, this has it all. A meal of its own, with a charcuterie and cheese board though, you’ll end up on a whole other level.
Give in to the temptation, granted, you are NOT going to find another single vineyard Atlas Peak wine at $22?! …perhaps ever again when this stash is gone.
93 Points – Wine Enthusiast
“This is made entirely from Merlot grapes grown at the producer’s high-elevation Attelas Vineyard on Atlas Peak. With an inviting rose petal aroma on the nose, it offers a sinewy texture on the palate that carries flavors of pomegranate, rhubarb, and lemon zest. It is lush yet balanced.”
