Mission Codename Holy schist
Open your mind…
And your palate - to Chenin Blanc on steroids! With electrifying, scintillating purity and intensity.
Savennieres in the house!! Arguably the single most prolific source for Chenin Blanc. Whisper it in a room full of Sommeliers and watch their ears perk up.
Think a hypothetical blend of crushed rocks and honeysuckle hand in hand. Or a great Meursault combining forces with a heady, hedonistic Viognier. Add all kinds of stone fruits, apples, and pears, leave the skins on. It pushes the boundaries of refreshing deliciousness and weakens your knees. Sit down to sip and savor…
Oh, and load up your carts, cause this one ain’t gonna last long.
Biodynamic, baby, 94 majestic points, crushed under $30 with a hefty almost HALF OFF break.
Wanna price compare? Not out there, we’re exclusive on this. Thanks to the newest addition to our line of great importer relationships: Bruno Lafon Selection.
Lafon name familiar? Yes, it’s THAT noble Lafon family, of the Domaine des Comtes Lafon. Imagine the scrutiny and selectivity that goes into procuring impeccable producers under that seal of approval. Every wine we taste from them, no matter the place, or the price, is LIT. Expect more finds from them soon…
And FL is no exception. Not Florida, silly, although we can easily see cases of this flying that way, we’re talking Fournier Longchamps, a miniscule winery in Rochefort-sur-Loire that specializes in Savennières just like neighboring myths Joly, Closel, or Baumard, churning profound Chenin Blanc aligned with lunar cycles and the rhythm of terroir. This single vineyard comes from La Frémine’s deep schist soils.
Let’s tune to Vinous for a recap of this relatively young superstar team: “This estate was created in 2007 through the fusion of two older estates, including that of Jo Pithon. The better-known one, though, was Château de Chamboureau in Savennières, which the current owners have converted to organic viticulture. The rather unusual name, FL, is an abbreviation of the family names of the current owner’s parents, Fournier-Longchamps. With 30 hectares of vineyards predominantly planted with Chenin Blanc, Philip Fournier and his son Julien have quickly become important players… with Kyriakos Kynigopoulos as consulting enologist.”
Kynigopoulos?! No, he’s not a Greek God. Though close. His long list of international clients is topped by Vega Sicilia and his specialty lies in making great Burgundy as evident in this striking white.
Trust us, $29 is way, WAY cheap for how good this is – pile up – we sure did.
94 Points – James Suckling
“An enticing, honeycomb aroma. Rich and powerful, but with lively acidity that keeps it clean. Lovely interplay of caramelized-pear and intense mineral character at the long, slightly tannic finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.”
