Our Deep End Pinot Noir is a combination of two sites: Romani & Nash Mill. Romani Vineyard is located close to the town of Navarro. It was planted by the Romanis who found the parcel on their honeymoon. Planted in 1999, the second generation of the family is currently tending to the vines and overseeing the property. We source our Pommard clone Pinot Noir from 2 blocks with very different soil profiles. We are amazed at the versatility of this site. Romani is quintessential Deep End Anderson Valley Pinot Noir with dark fruit character while retaining elegance and lift accentuated by lovely spice and character.
Nash Mill is named after the Redwood logging sites that once surrounded the land that is now the vineyard. Currently owned by the Wentworth Family, they have transitioned the vineyard to organic farming with a generational plan for this special site. Nash Mill is in the Deep End of Anderson Valley, in a location where the cool air funnels in and stays for the better part of the day. This is one of the coolest parts of the valley, making Nash Mill a late-ripening site. This combined with the rose blonde soil brings out the Pinot perfume in the 667 & 115 clones of Pinot Noir.
The 2019 Pinot Noir shows the benefit Pinot Noir receives from a long steady growing season. Damson plum, red rose petals, tangerine oil, graphite, black fruit flavors with a touch of black pepper. Rich with a fine textural tannin, overlain with hibiscus. Douglas fir tip essence combined with new leather then leads to a concentrated core of raspberry. The 2019 continues to build and impress in the glass, with a mineral and a bright floral finish.
