Mission Codename Cellar Stocker #13
Cellar Stocker: Cult Wines Beyond Napa Edition Continues…
Did you say MORE DAOU?
Here’s the pick when only the best will do: A 100-POINTER, cult-crushing, first growth stomping APEX PREDATOR Cabernet. A nearly impossible to find, waiting list allocation only gem, at a price you won’t find anywhere else, today, tomorrow, or… maybe ever.
OH yes. This will put many of the best Napa Cabs to shame.
It’s been called “a sensational Cabernet Sauvignon that can stand up the best out there” . One that is “unbelievably ripe, pixelated frame and fantastic juiciness… this is stunning” and “as I’ve said in the past, these wines compete with the best of Napa Valley and are some of the leading Bordeaux blends from Paso Robles.” because “there’s no one else making Cabernet Sauvignon like this in Paso Robles!”
DAOU’s flagship Patrimony will deconstruct your ideas about the limits of winemaking around the globe, and then reassemble them into an altogether new reference point of understanding.
The sheer OMG factor here cannot be overstated… sometimes you wonder, “is this wine worth it” and the answer here is an unequivocal YES.
Too little available to tell.
100 Points – The Tasting Panel
“With a prolonged hang time—and the latest harvest to date on Daou Mountain—this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is not only concentrated, but silky and ultra-generous in fruit and aromatics. The dazzling texture of Devil’s Food Cake, boysenberry preserves, offers a most sensual mouthfeel that is more of a caress than a grip. The wine’s inherent calcareous nature weaves its chalky minerality through a field of violets and sweet tobacco. Aged 30 months in an assortment of high-end French oak barrels, with extra tight grain and a medium-long toast.”
98+ Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
“The 2018 Patrimony is an extraordinarily long, layered and pure Cabernet Sauvignon. Made entirely from free-run juice and aged 30 months in new French oak barrels, it offers stunning aromatics: blueberry and blackberry preserves are accented by garrigue, wildflowers and meaty tones, with pure wafts of mint chocolate. The palate has a bursting sensation from its fresh acidity and chocolaty tannins, driving you to take another sip. It’s everything it promised from barrel, and it can be expected to gain complexity in bottle over the next 20+ years. Drink 2022-2042.”
98+ Points – Jeb Dunnuck
“What can be thought of as the flagship label from the DAOU brothers, Patrimony includes four releases – varietal releases of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, and their Caves des Lions, which is a blend from a vineyard around the home of one of the brothers. These are the real deal and consistently rank with the finest Bordeaux varieties coming out of California today. The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is another magical wine from this estate. Deep purple-hued, with full-bodied aromas and flavors of crème de cassis, toasted spices, tobacco, mint, and cedar pencil, it’s just a quintessential Cabernet Sauvignon offering remarkable purity, building, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. Showing the pure, elegant, structured style of this vintage beautifully, it has the structure to benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and will have 20+ years of prime drinking. Drink 2023-2043.”
