Mission Codename Cellar Stocker #2
The Crows are back, just a few more cases!
“Stone the Crows’ Three Twins Vineyard Cabernet is one of the most distinctive wines in Napa Valley. This small hillside site in Conn Valley was originally developed by the Harlan team and remains meticulously farmed today. Thomas Rivers Brown makes the wines for proprietor Rick Talmadge.” - Vinous
Stone the Crows burst onto the scene a few years ago to HUGE acclaim. With TRB at the helm, you know you’re in for a treat.
Boasting 95 and 94-point scores so far, described as “generously expansive and opulent” and hailing from “one of the most distinctive sites in Napa Valley”, this stuff is bound to put a big smile on even the pickiest collector’s face.
Especially at our price.
Brown has been hailed as “the most successful winemaker in California” and has the “Midas touch” according to the pros. He only works with the best vineyards, case in point - Three Twins Vineyard which was planted by Mary Hall for Harlan’s The Napa Valley Reserve. Crows owner Rick Talmadge bought the 4.5-acre vineyard, and now he’s doing it justice by making some truly remarkable wines.
We’ll leave it up to the pros to deliver the full description, but we’ll just say it’s ripe, opulent, and flush with everything you want in a big and strikingly rare Napa Cab.
95 Points – Wine Enthusiast
“This is a generously expansive and opulent wine, well-integrated, with a supple center of black cherry, cassis and currant. The rich fruit is complemented by baking spice, coconut and a dusting of cocoa powder, the wine lengthy and structured.”
94+ Points – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous
“Stone The Crows is one of the most distinctive sites in Napa Valley. The 2017s are both terrific and show just how privileged this vineyard is. Consulting winemaker Thomas Brown and his team have done a terrific job in coaxing all the best that was possible in 2017. The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Three Twins Vineyard from Stone the Crows has a lot going on. Graphite, floral and dried herb overtones give the 2017 a distinctly savory character that is beguiling. In the glass, the 2017 is powerful, with notable fruit depth and equally stout tannins. Time in the glass brings out the floral notes and red berry fruit that are such signatures of this wine. The 2017 needs time to settle, but it is very promising. Drink 2022-2037.”
