Mission Codename A thousand kisses deep
“Barolo needs balance.” - Davide Rosso, winemaker
Just what exactly is balance? You need one wine to DEFINE that? Look no further!
To put it in words, it’s that shooting star you catch on a moonless night, it’s that magical sweet spot where everything comes together in one sublime, almost ethereal place. This wine has it in spades.
And how exactly can a Cru Barolo with a cult following, and 96 points, can be had at 40% OFF? It helps to have tight relationships with the winner of Wine & Spirits’ Importer of the Year for just about every year nowadays it seems. We jumped on every bottle they could allocate.
Oh, and the wine? Sublime and divine. A timid ruby with crimson highlights greets the eye. The perfume is thoroughly classic, with immediate tar and roses melded with macerated red fruits and sweet spices. One sip and you’re in love, with freshness, depth, silky yet abundant and classy tannins, and a ton more fruit, earth, savory, and mineral elements. The same complexity carries through on the minute-plus long finish, adding new layers of towering finesse. A match made in heaven is Tajarin, the famous fresh pasta of Piedmont made with way too many egg yolks, this will cut right that intense richness.
It’s a Prapò people, ‘the pearl of Serralunga d’Alba’ that only a few winemakers have access to, heralded names such as Paolo Scavino, Ceretto, Ettore Germano, Schiavenza clamor over the fruit every vintage. Check out its story told by Davide Fregonese, the owner:
Wanna be the cool vino who experienced this future legend early? Stock up - while we have some.
96 Points – Wine Enthusiast
“Forest floor, rose, new leather and woodland berry aromas lead the way in this gorgeous red. Fermented in concrete tanks with indigenous yeasts followed by aging in large Slavonian and French oak casks, it’s structured and delicious, offering strawberry compote, ripe Morello cherry, licorice and baking spice set against a backbone of firm, fine-grained tannins. Give it time to fully develop. Drink 2027-2037.”
