Knight’s Valley lies between Alexander Valley and the backside of Mt. St. Helena. It is one of the three best California Appellations for Cabernet Sauvignon. The Zukowski Vineyard is on the edge of the valley as it starts to climb Mt. St. Helena and has the best terroir of the appellation. The 2012 vintage was exceptional, the best since 2007. We used our Clean Wine® protocols, blended the wine by taste, and aged it in our cave for 32 months. The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon will have a long life.
The Zukowski Vineyard is on the edge of the valley as it starts to climb Mt. St. Helena and has the best terroir of the appellation. It’s a small vineyard on the edge of the forest that Mark Zukowski planted to a field blend of Cab, Cab Franc and Merlot. Robert blended in a bit of Sonoma Valley Malbec to make it the perfect Bordeaux-style Meritage experience. Add to that four years of barrel aging in the Deerfield cave and three more years in the bottle and it’s no wonder it got 96 points.
Assembled by taste, at which Robert is an expert, the blend accentuates the Cabernet and its terroir by taking the flavors to every corner of your palate; no holes, no spikes, no sharp edges, nothing left out, everything in balance. We made just 280 cases. This wine is the perfect expression of our art.
