Mission Codename Up the creek
Lush, creamy, satisfyingly delicious Chardonnay… oh, how we’ve been waiting for you to resurface.
We know a LOT of you have been waiting too. Well, today’s the day.
MAKE YOUR MOVE on this fabulous single vineyard Anderson Valley beauty from none other than MEYER FAMILY.
For… is that right… just $25??
Meyer Family - for the few remaining operatives who don’t know, Meyer Family is a super cool, under-the-radar winery, and you might recognize Justin Meyer as co-founder of SILVER OAK. After Justin’s passing in 2002 the family set their sights on revisiting their premium winemaking roots.
Double the Gold Medals, and solid scores too. What we scored here is a BIG deal. For the 2016, Wine Enthusiast wrote “very generous in flavor, this is a big but well-balanced and well-crafted wine that’s suitable for a special occasion.”
And like their much-loved Cabernet, this has all the hallmarks of a finely tuned California classic Chardonnay. It’s a DOOZY. A record-scratching “WHAT IS THAT?!” flavor bomb for your white-wine starved souls. Generous and full-figured, it’s a little tropical, a little citrusy and altogether too easy to drink. It boasts plenty of vanilla, butterscotch, peaches and cream and toasty pears, hazelnut and lemon curd. Aging on the lees helps firm up the complexity, adding a creamy texture. While a nice line of acidity keeps all those big, weighty flavors from bottoming out and really gives it the perfect balance. Might just be your new favorite house white…
BUT, judging by the pent-up demand (we’re heard you Cheryl H.) for white wines, and specifically Chardonnay in this style, we don’t have enough to satisfy the crowds, sadly.
