Art Bus is one of our unique winemaker blends from La Sirena. Art Bus celebrates the Artistic side of winemaking - I have often compared the Art of blending to painting. In both, the artist uses different hues (flavors) to create something truly unique and beautiful (and in the case of wine, something delicious!) In this rich layered blend, I sought to create an exciting new blend as a tribute to Artists of every medium who strive to create beauty. This is also our charity bottling where a percentage of our sales go to Heifer International, helping families all over the world. Our label shows one of our “found” object Art projects- an abandoned bus that was given new life as a fanciful Central-American-inspired Art studio complete with cargo on the roof. Wishing you “Pura Vida!” Literally- Pure life!
One of my favorite wines to make, Art Bus is a creative blend that shows off the delicious fruit we grow at our own Calistoga property (Cab Sauv and Syrah). We don’t make it every year but were able to produce its fourth iteration in the bountiful 2014 vintage. It shows a dense, dark ruby color with deep aromas of ripe fruit, black plums, dark cherry, and cedar, with sweet toasty French oak notes. On the palate, it’s very mouth-coating and rich, with explosive flavors. I love the silky yet powerful impact and chewy texture of this wine - it definitely has a wow factor! A big wine that will age nicely, with serious structure and perfect balance - already impressive and enjoyable upon release.

We don’t make it every year, but were able to produce its fifth iteration in the gorgeous 2016 vintage. This wonderful black raspberry colored red blend has a deep, ripe aroma profile of plums and cherries with layers of toasty French oak, caramel and a hint of spice. Across the palate, it’s big, concentrated & velvety – cherry & plum-like fruit and layers of richness complemented by sweet oak notes are harmonious together, and flavors persist with amazing length. A thing of beauty with dense extract, refined tannins and great balance. We chose to release this one at the 5 year mark, one of the optimal times to drink many red wines – although this will also be one to continue aging as you prefer! It has the structure and fruit to do both. Delicious as of these notes – enjoy! From wine critic James Suckling: “…A savory nose with lots of smoked meat, dried porcini mushrooms and oyster sauce. Black plums and dried thyme, too. It’s full-bodied with firm, sleek yet rounded tannins. Deliciously concentrated layers of black fruit and umami flavors. Even more fantastic after 2022.” 96 points Why “La Sirena”? The name means “the Mermaid” in Spanish and Italian. I chose it because I’m a lifelong ocean lover, longtime scuba diver, and wanted a winery name that was fun & magical (like wine) and also personal to me. The first vintage of La Sirena was 1994 with the first Cabernet Sauvignon made in 1996. Our current wine lineup: Cabernet Sauvignon, Le Barrettage (Rhone style blend), Moscato Azul (dry Muscat Canelli), Rosato (rosé of Primitivo), Malbec, and our two fun and tasty proprietary winemaker red blends, Art Bus and Pirate TreasuRed. Production is always small, focusing on fine wines of purity and excellence-the best that can be made. Wishing you all the best! Heidi Peterson Barrett Winemaker, La Sirena
