Mission Codename Wait a Minuty!
There’s rosé, then there’s rosé. Rose et Or to be exact, or pink and gold in English.
Pink because it is, and gold because it drinks like Saint-Tropez, by taking you right there, in a ragtop Aston Martin screeching the rugged curvy coastline just before sunrise with beautiful people (insert you & loved ones), dressed like millionaires who just raked up the roulette table at a Monte Carlo casino.
This is MONEY rosé. One of the highest-rated jewels of the Provence, making its original $55 tag a bargain.
But we like you too much to ask that, so how about a whopping 60% off?! Yea? You like $22? We like!
In 1955 Château Minuty was one of 23 estates to be certified as a “Cru Classé” or “top of the line” Côtes de Provence. It only has gotten better since.
Check out this recent Forbes article on Minuty, here’s the gist of it, “as the popularity of rosé has boomed, tripling in the past 25 years, getting the good stuff has gotten more challenging. Many low-quality producers jumped into the market to meet demand, and today there are lot of cheap but not very good rosés on store shelves, and worse, a lot of pricey but not very good ones as well… When it comes to rosé, there is no house quite like Château Minuty, the global leader in Côtes de Provence.”
They continue… “Provence is the #1 French region for rosé production… They know what they are doing. But even in this elite group, Château Minuty stands out, and the 80-plus year old family owned winery is generally acknowledged to be among the world’s top producers, championing especially food-friendly wines that can be enjoyed all year round - not just in summertime. As a result, shopping for this label is about as fail safe and simple a way to enjoy reliably great rosé as you can imagine…”
Then they zero in on the Rose et Or 2019: “This is a step up into a very high-quality rosé for more special summer (or anytime) occasions, like having beloved guests over for dinner - or bringing as a gift when you are the guest. Rose et Or comes exclusively from the original estate vineyard, just a half-mile from the ocean in St. Tropez. Very intense citrus fruit aroma plus complex flavor, bursting with fruity freshness notes of pink grapefruit and white peach. This one goes with a wide variety of tapas or starters, almost every kind of seafood, lighter soups and Pacific Rim fare.”
Wine Enthusiast picked this as one of its 7 Luxury French Rosés Worth the Splurge spotlight too, pointing out that “If you’re looking to treat yourself and indulge properly while keeping things pink, here are some of our favorite luxury rosés of Southern France, from Tavel and Bandol to the wide offerings of Côtes de Provence.”
Think of it as a hypothetical cross between a juicy Gigondas and a crisp Sancerre. Rich and passionately deep in red fruits, while tight as a drum, and saline as the Mediterranean breezes, with an electric zing on top. Voila, you get the picture. Get out of that ‘bistro pink’ mindset now and think along the lines of Ott, Minerval, Clos Cibonne, or Tempier. Yep, it’s THAT complex. And it’s got zero signs of giving up being fresh as a daisy.
Totally worthy of your Thanksgiving feast, it’s the ultimate desert island rosé. Bad news last, there wasn’t much imported, to begin with, so act fast.
93 Points – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous
“Limpid onion skin. An expansive, highly perfumed bouquet evokes strawberry, nectarine, grapefruit zest, anise and succulent flowers. Vibrant and precise on the palate, offering intense citrus pith, red berry and honeysuckle flavors that pick up a minerally nuance with air. The floral and mineral notes repeat emphatically on a strikingly persistent finish that shows fine delineation and nervy cut. Drink 2020-2023.”
92 Points – Wine Enthusiast
“Grenache and a touch of Tibouren come together in this soft, rich and generous wine. Acidity is beautifully integrated into the fruits and rounded texture, making this a great food wine. Drink from late 2020.”
