Our fruit is 100% from the 1½-acre Kidd Ranch in Napa Valley. This 40-year old formerly all Zinfandel vineyard is located on the valley floor within St. Helena. The Cabernet Sauvignon vines were planted starting in 2003 and are both cordon and cane trained on meter-x-meter spacing, and on four rootstocks: Riparia, 101-14 Mgt, 1103P, and 110R. Ten of the best Cabernet Sauvignon clones in the world are part of the complexity and backbone of our vineyard and this wine.
2016 was the 5th warmest growing season of the decade. Warm temperatures in the spring got the vines off to a very early start resulting in an early budbreak and flowering. Crop loads were down in some vineyards due to cooler weather during the bloom time but our Kidd Ranch vines set a normal crop. The midseason displayed normal warm temperatures without any noticeable heat spikes and the grapes ripened at an even pace into and through the month of September.
This crimson-purple-hued wine has classic aromas coffee bean, blueberry, sweet red plum, black cherry, dried figs, and baking spices. Seamless flavors of black cherry, black currant, and dark chocolate are followed by inviting vanilla notes. In the mouth impressions of luscious black fruits are wrapped in a smooth and silky texture. The finish lingers with flavors of blackcurrant, and black cherry.
