Mission Codename MC Musky
By the time we give the authentic pronunciation of Bürgergarten Erste Lage Pfalz Muskateller Trocken justice, this will be long gone.
So how bout we call it FUN, FUN, FUN! Has a serious side too. Like 99 POINTS serious. dry white slipped under 40 bucks. BEST PRICE ON EARTH, yes, this German Muscat is something else!
Speaking of German, a couple of other new arrivals, super-rare, highly rated (94-100!) Rieslings are here in the Store today as well, don’t forget to check them out while they last.
This is a perplexing, dazzling, one-of-a-kind, blow-your-mind Muscat. The aromas fill the entire room with a seemingly sweet, most intoxicating exotic perfume. Then it delivers a change up on the palate that catches you off guard. All manner of white stone fruits, dried apricots, and honeysuckle nectar comes shining forth, with a fabulous minerality, vein-chilling acidity, and an almost saline and savory complexity.
The mind simply REELS at the complexity here.
No surprise, really. We are talking Müller-Catoir. An estate which Robert Parker certifies “For the extraordinary diversity of great wines that are produced, Müller-Catoir is Germany’s greatest estate. Who else achieves such brilliance with not only Riesling, but with Muskateller, Scheurebe, and Rieslaner?”
Especially when from an acclaimed hilltop 1er Cru (Erste Lage) single-vineyard like Bürgergarten.
Let’s just say, the lucky palates we are, at the panel this was in it made us forget all those big cult reds around that cost many, many bottles of this. From the intoxicating perfume that filled the room soon as the cork was popped, to the very last breathtaking sip in the bottle that got passed around till empty, it will remain one of the most memorable wines we ever encountered. Lucky us. And lucky few of you who experience it as well.
Finally, one last Robert Parker quote to stress the treasure we bring you here; “Müller-Catoir is Germany’s most fashionable winemaker, enjoying a position among connoisseurs much like that of such illustrious French winemakers as Jean-François Coche-Dury, Comte Lafon, Michel Niellon, and Olivier & Leonard Humbrecht. …undoubtedly multi-dimensional, as well as exceptionally complex. Most importantly, they are delicious!”
Delicious, indeed. And FUN! But is there plenty to go around? Sadly not.
99 Points – James Suckling
“Welcome to the most beautiful rose garden there ever was! But wait a minute, there are also hibiscus, jasmine and all kind of other floral aromas hanging in the air. The concentration and complexity of this totally exceptional dry Muscat is off the scale! Breathtaking freshness at the almost endless finish. A dry Muscat miracle! Drink or hold.”
