Ready for round 3 of one of the most popular, profoundly head-spinning reds we EVER sold? You can’t seem to get enough of the 2014 Hayne Petite, so we’re back with one last vintage. Anyone who bought the 2014 already knows what’s up but if you’re new, get your speed reading on. Because the 2013 stash was even smaller, and inventory is already moving fast, running low like a Dachshund race.

Many of you know and love Elyse. The boutique family-run winery has been a best-kept secret in Napa for a long time. It’s named after their daughter. But they also have a son. And to be fair, they helped him launch a small project named Jacob Franklin. Originally it was under the Elyse umbrella, up until the recent sale of the brand, when the family selected it to continue the legacy.

We tasted three Petites from Jacob Franklin recently. All three crushed it and it was honestly hard to choose. But the Hayne Vineyard designation had the slightest edge, thanks to a few extra years in the bottle which softened those notoriously big brawny tannins into soft, sensitive, soothing little things. There’s a good reason Turley found promise in in this vineyard, their 2012 Hayne Petite “flirting with perfection” per Robert Parker by touching 100-points. The same reason why most of the highest-rated Petite Sirahs are from there too. Planted in the early 1900s, the head-trained, organic, dry-farmed vines produce some of the most coveted and powerful Petite Sirah in the world.

Deep black too, with that mild slither of a ruby towards the barely existent rim against the glass. Herbal, with a mint tea note, rolling right into brambly fruit, raspberry leaf, ripe mulberries. Silky soft in texture, with ultrafine tannins, boysenberry accents with an undertone of spice. Shows its best last, with a plush mouthfeel, completely resolved, with gorgeous fruit lasting on and on. This is a beef ribs red if there was one, be it smoked all day falling off the bone, or rare as a prime rib with horseradish.

Once again, this is the kind of wine even the most jaded cult Cab drinker will love. Massive crowd-pleasing potential. Originally at $75 but $25 today??! Cram as much as you can into your lockers but do it quickly ‘cause these don’t last.
