Mission Codename Runway red
OH boy.
We’re amped up, dialed in, and ready to drop this heavyweight mountain single-vineyard gem from Napa’s Atlas Peak into your lap. Chalk up yet another triumphant first for Wine Spies - a deal you won’t find anywhere else. And the discount is bursting at the seams like Joey Chestnut’s waistline after he ate 76 hot dogs to win the Nathan’s Hot Dog Contest last weekend. Just about 60% OFF!
Unlike the namesake monster Boeing jet, Triple Seven is a tiny, family-run operation run by Rusty and Donna Hinds. It’s exactly the kind of winery and wines we love to land. The kind that you just won’t find anywhere but your trusted Agents at Wine Spies.
It’s micro-production (just 4 barrels!) means it sees an utterly obsessive attention to detail. BUUUUT that also means we probably didn’t get enough to satiate everyone. Their winemaker Patrick Mahaney is no stranger to the boutique wine scene having spent over two decades at Robert Mondavi as Director of Napa Valley Winemaking Operations. And this is his crown jewel.
If you love those big, expansive, lush Napa blends you MUST give this a try. Sourced entirely from the Broken Rock Vineyard on Atlas Peak, a site owned by the legendary William Hill - diehard Napa Cab fans know the name. It also happens to be a secret source for the likes of Philippe Melka, Paul Hobbs, Hall Winery, Titus… to name a few.
This is a Right-Bank Bordeaux-style blend, so it combines Merlot with a dollop of Cabernet Franc and a dribble of Petit Verdot. POWERFUL is the word here. The type of strength only high elevation, rugged mountain terrain can provide. Buckle up and prepare for a whirlwind of aromas and flavors - blackberry, plum, shaved baking chocolate, savory spices… Warm, toasty perfectly integrated oak, fine-grained tannins all add to the complexity of the sublime finale, begging for a garlic butter prime rib feast.
This has years of life ahead of it, if you can resist… we could not.
Grab a bottle or a case for yourself - maybe send some friends invites too and snag a cool $20 for your efforts (not to mention the entry to win $1,000 of collectibles we liberated from Agent Red’s stash).
Not much of this one, so move quickly!
