Our Zinfandel is grown in the heart of the Russian River Valley, an area known for producing outstanding Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, and Chardonnay. Coastal fog blankets our fruit almost every morning and evening which allows our Zinfandel to develop its deep character. A portion (45%) of this Zin is made from our Gambogi vineyards, planted as early as 1909.
Coming off one of the wettest winters on record, the 2017 growing season soon normalized with bud break occurring later than that of the drought years. Throughout summer we saw numerous heat waves that sped the maturation of the vines while a cooler August allowed this Zinfandel to ripen more slowly and evenly leading up to the pick.
We fermented our Zinfandel in open-top tanks and “punched-down” the skins to extract and express the rich colors and qualities this fruit has to offer. After being pressed, the wine was aged in American oak barrels for approximately 16 months.
Our Estate Zinfandel displays fragrant aromas of mentholated blackberry and sandalwood, while fully developed flavors of black currant, dusty cocoa, cinnamon arise from this wine’s succulent palate.
