Mission Codename Ocean potion
THIS is why we do what we do.
Scouring our backyard and unearthing fantastic micro-production, single-vineyard Carneros Chardonnay from the Sangiacomo family’s Green Acres Hills nonetheless!
Beats anything we ever found as a kid with one of those metal detectors, that’s for sure. Never found gold back then, but today we struck it rich with some serious GOLDEN nectar. And at 50% OFF, we’re practically splitting the bounty with you!!
Last year, just before the pandemic shut everything down, our quest to level up our wine offers took us to the Garagiste Festival in Sonoma. At this gathering of exclusively boutique production wineries, we tasted through dozens of wines and found some absolute stunners. Problem was, most had such small production - not enough to satiate our hordes of thirsty operatives.
BUT a few had just enough to fill our needs.
Ocean’s Churning was one of the chosen few. Proprietor/winemaker Raj Iyer is a true garagiste, full of passion, exuding a calm, friendly personality. His wines absolutely captivated us. Simply beautiful inside and out.
This is no exception. Striking a balance between that lush California style and the crisp, lean, steely style. It’s buttery, yes, but not overly so. With a creamy mouthfeel, it also brings a ton of ripe fruits upfront and center. Just-ripened melons, pears, pineapple, and sweet lemon bars with a vanilla custard on top. Mmmm… and a hint of minerality, too. It’s pure, sublime, and crystalline as a waterfall in the wilderness. Just outrageously good, and a perfect bottle to enjoy with soft cheeses, or maybe a stone fruit salad this summer. Yet as we witnessed with the sold-out older vintages, it’ll continue to fascinate for years.
Dan Berger of Napa Valley Register described Ocean’s Churning Chardonnays as “sublime… an extraordinary attempt to replicate what the Chablissiene have done for centuries… with all the delicacy of their district but with none of the oaky flavors that make for a richer wine.” As can be attested here, they truly are dead ringers for top-of-the-line Chablis.
Somehow, through our advanced mind control techniques, persuasive dialogues, or just plain good looks (maybe all three) we convinced them to let this go for a steal.
Only 4 barrels made - which is just 95 cases. We say at least one of those has your name on it…
