Mission Codename Right Said Frediani
Ok OK! We know you guys eviscerated the last Jacob Franklin Petite in a matter of hours. And then you flooded us with requests for more. So, if you missed it, or just want more of that hedonistic goodness, consider this equally venerable Frediani Vineyard the second coming.
It has an equally incredible pedigree, an even better 93 points, and the same $25 price tag!
Many of you know and love Elyse. The boutique family-run winery has been a best-kept secret in Napa for a long time. It’s named after their daughter. But they also have a son. And not wanting to play favorites, they helped him launch a small winery project named Jacob Franklin. And while you can find a few varietals under his name, he specializes in one thing - making kickass Petite Sirah.
Tasted blind it gives any high-end Napa Cabernet a run - if not an outright beatdown. Petite Sirah is NOT a subtle varietal, and this is no exception. The deep-purple inky-black staining color and the wild berry perfume that fills the room hint at the intensity about to unravel on your tongue. It’s a BIG, beastly thing. Like a wild stallion on steroids. Flaunting all kinds of chewy, ripe goodness, it’s full-bodied with blackberry jam, smoked meats, sweet leather, and a healthy dose of exotic spices all bridled under some expensive new French Oak. The tannins, while prominent, still have a polished feel and surely this has a long, long road ahead of it. Rock this with a thick tomahawk steak and you’ll be in heaven.
Even the most jaded cult Cab drinkers can’t resist this wine. Massive crowd-pleasing potential. For $25 it puts a hurt on many wines costing 2-3x the price.
JUST 4 barrels made and had to grab all that was left by the time we got there.
Better claim yours fast because the last one sold out in hours…
93 points – Tastings.com
“Nearly opaque black violet color. Aromas and flavors of tobacco, dark chocolate, spiced walnuts, birch, and black tea with a slightly chewy, vibrant, dryish medium-full body and a smooth, intricate, long finish displaying overtones of rosewood and cherry cola. A bold and unique Petite Sirah with distinctive oak notes that captivate.”
