The Morisoli Vineyard is located between Niebaum and Manley Lanes, at the base of Mt. Saint John and in the heart of the Rutherford Bench. This area has a worldwide reputation for growing great Cabernet Sauvignon. The light, dusty, gravely soil here produces grapes with vibrant flavor and impeccable balance. The resulting wines express equal parts power and finesse. An Elyse wine from this vineyard will have great longevity but is also very drinkable when released. Each year, since 1986, we produce a Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel from this very special place in Napa Valley.
We have been making Zinfandel from the Morisoli Vineyard since 1986 and have been the only producer working with these grapes since 1988. The old field blend vines, Rutherford Bench terroir, and traditional farming practices always create a truly distinctive Zinfandel. This 2016 is a classic! It is cranberry red in color and blessed with a captivating nose of briar patch, orange zest, rose petals, mint, and baking spices. The medium-bodied palate is equally intriguing and expressive. Flavors of raspberry sorbetto and black plums are lifted by bright acidity and white pepper. True to form and one of the last and best examples of “mixed black” wines left in Napa Valley.
