Mission Codename Buck yeah!
Hot take: If you like big, powerful reds, you’ll LOVE this stuff.
Surely you’re joking, you say.
You cannot be serious.
We can almost hear the wine cognoscenti snickering and giggling. BOURBON barrel aged wine??! Preposterous! Outrageous! A crime!
Honestly, we felt the same way when this came across our discerning plate. Big eyerolls. Then three of us tasted it. And you know something? It’s… it’s actually pretty darn delicious. No, make that excellent. Totally shattered our expectations in fact. Yes, it’s definitely a high-octane fruit bomb, dark as motor oil, and hedonistically delightful. Not going to charm anyone who likes light, dainty and elegant Old World style reds. But if you love that ripped, ripe, teeth staining Prisoner / Orin Swift style of massive reds you better back up the truck on this one!
Petite Sirah, as you may know, is anything but small. By itself it makes for some righteously rich, almost untamed juice. This comes loaded to the gills with all kinds of dark fruit. There’s blackberry for days, bucketloads of black cherry pie, heaps of charred espresso beans, sugarplums and sweet vanilla all packed into a round, soft mouthcoating style. If you like rich, heady Zins you will LOVE this. Now, you might be wondering “is it sweet”? Actually, it’s not. Unlike a lot of Bourbon barrel aged reds which come off as cloying and syrupy, this is on the bone-dry side - certainly ripe, but not sugary.
Oh yea, and one more thing… we haven’t even touched upon the price of this one yet…
FIFTEEN BUCKS!! For a crazy good red AND the aromatics of top shelf Bourbon??? How can you NOT try at least a few bottles?! This stuff is like the Tai Lopez of wine. Easy to underestimate and snicker about, but when you peel back the layers and actually look under the hood you realize it has the stuffing to back up the hype.
Do yourself a favor here. Can’t click for you, but if we could we’d load up.
