Mission Codename Sully won again!
Who loves big, rich, sultry, dusty Rutherford Cab?
Stupid question. Who DOESN’T? Any living breathing wine lover surely wants some estate-grown (right next door to Beckstoffer!!) Cab from the spectacular 2016 vintage, with 92+ and 94 points, for HALF OFF in their life. Them’s just facts. Right?!
Sullivan Vineyards has been around for decades, with a rich history of making some outstanding wines, and they’re surrounded by some elite company - Caymus, Staglin, Quintessa, Scarecrow just to name a few neighbors. We can’t really go into how we were able to land this deep insider’s deal, but it may have come about from Agent Noir’s deep history with the winery. We remain sworn to secrecy!
At $110 this bottle runs right alongside its pedigree cohorts, however, at $55, competition is virtually nonexistent. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity as only Wine Spies can do it - until tomorrow at least. Anyways, the wine… dense, with dark purple and black fruit, blackberry, cassis, that telltale Rutherford powdered cocoa, clove, vanilla, with superfine tannins. It’s downright sexy today, and terrifyingly easy to drink, especially with a buttery tenderloin cooked to perfection.
Still reading? You should know inventory is in a freefall. We bought every last case they’d part with but given how top-notch Napa Cab has been flying lately, we expect this to last maybe a few hours.
Grab some before it’s gone!
94 Points – The Tasting Panel
“Rich ruby color; plum and vanilla nose; silky texture, toasty and refined; long and elegant with notes of coffee, spice and mocha; plum, berry and deep flavors.”
92+ Points – Jeb Dunnuck
“All three of the 2016s I was able to taste showed beautifully. Starting with the 2016 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, it’s a blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Petit Verdot, brought up in 50% new oak. This is classic Cabernet all the way and offers lots of cassis, green tobacco, cedar, and dark chocolate. These carry to a medium to full-bodied 2016 that has ripe, present tannins, good purity, and an old school, complex, textbook Cabernet character. Give it 3-4 years and enjoy over the following two decades. Drink 2023-2043.”
