Truth! This is one of those total no-brainers, “please sir may I have another” type offers that we jump at. If you follow the boutique Sonoma Pinot scene in any capacity, you probably know La Pitchoune and already dipped out of here to snag a few. To have ANY of this beautiful triple-90-point 2015 Pinot from them, let alone at a nice 40% discount… incredible!
For the uninitiated, La Pitchoune means “the little one” in French. Small production, small lots, and plenty of small decisions add up to a big success. Owners Tracy and Peter Neilsen kicked things off in 2012 and make just 1,200 cases each year but despite the tiny production, they’ve amassed a strong following of devoted Pinot and Chardonnay lovers. Nearly everything they make rates 90 or higher, this one included. No surprise given they’re tapped into some prime vineyard sites - Chenoweth, Devoto, English Hill, Pratt, and Van Der Kamp to name a few. Many of which supply fruit to cream of the crop Pinot makers like Dutton, Dehlinger, Kistler.
This wine flashes a style between California and Burgundy, with pure red berries, plums, baking spices, fresh leather, and earl gray tea mix and mingle. Juicy midweight style with tons of freshness. Brisk acidity makes it perfect for big meals.
There was not a lot to go around of this to begin with, so what you see is what you get!

“Medium ruby, the 2015 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast has an earthy nose of soil, graphite, pipe tobacco and herbs with brambly black fruits in the background. The palate is medium-bodied and earthy with firm, slightly grippy tannins and just enough freshness on the finish. Drink 2019-2024.”

“The ruby-colored 2015 Pinot Noir, which was 70% destemmed and brought up in 25% new French oak, offers a complex bouquet of tart cherries, bay leaf, green flowers, and spice cabinet. With fine tannins, medium body, and good acidity, it’s has a kiss of green (I suspect from the stems) in its aromas and flavors, yet it’s nicely balanced and add rather than detracts. It’s an outstanding wine to enjoy over the coming 7-8 years. Drink 2019-2027.”

“Dark garnet color in the glass. Aromas of purple grapes, boysenberry and underbrush lead off. Dense and bold in a fruit-driven mid weight plus style, with waves of dark red and purple fruits greeting the palate. A botanical thread plies the background. Nicely composed with balanced tannins and some finishing purpose.”
