Mission Codename Margaux to Bradford
This WIA category was hard to pick, dear Operatives, with innumerable precious relationships bringing us jaw-dropping deals year-round. Yet Peterson Family brought to the table, not 1, not 2, but 4 extraordinary reds this year, and this is the only one we were able to secure just a tiny bit more of!
Peterson CAB! at 40% OFF, one last round for 2020.
That omnipotent, infinitely treasured, often worshipped red, Cabernet can be. And Peterson’s rendition, as expected with every varietal they put out, is textbook from tip to toe…
Dark ruby-red color, rich and concentrated even visually. Ripe, rich, and concentrated again on the nose, with layers of currant, black cherry, herb, and chocolate. Starts out earthy and chewy on the palate, but the core of rich mineral, currant, wild berry, and cherry flavors builds. Long on the impressive finish with supple tannins, showing uncommon depth and intensity for Dry Creek Valley especially. This is a brawny Cabernet that sure will need a hefty cut of meat, grilled medium to rare with lavish sides.
A little history and a little research begins to scratch the surface of the greatness before us…
Let’s REWIND way back, to 1884. A visionary Dr. Rixford down in Woodside, CA (modern-day Silicon Valley) was MADLY in love with Bordeaux 1st Growth Château Margaux. So much so that he not only modeled his La Questa Vineyard after this legendary estate but even smuggled the cuttings from it for an exact replica in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Within a few years, word got out, and in a small circle down there, before the 20th century rolled in a Martin Ray planted Mount Eden Vineyards with these, along with the Monte Bello Vineyard, much later made famous by Ridge’s Paul Draper. A long-time dweller of this community, the Petersons grew, and knew the true value of this legacy, bringing the cuttings with them when they moved to Dry Creek Valley in the 1980s.
Talk about pedigree… it will move fast. STOCK UP!
