Mission Codename The Jam
Pump up the Jam, PUMP IT UP!
Heard you like rockinâ ripe old vine Zinfandel⊠well, we werenât talking about the Technotronic hit. Nah, weâre immersing ourselves in some high definition raspberry jam-packed surround sound for your taste buds. Entry to this party costs $22 and gets you entry into one of the most thrilling and pure Zins weâve tasted recently.
Hailing from a historic site in Contra Costa County, this vineyard has been in the Del Barba family for four generations. These old vines, many planted before World War I, make for some righteous juice packed with power and complexity. How do they get such bright, electric, jammy fruit?? Itâs all about the winemaking tech! They ferment in concrete tanks and use wild yeasts. After fermentation, they rack it in neutral oak barrels. The focus centers entirely on the sensational old vine fruit. No heavy oak or anything like that. Itâs all red cherry pie and jammy raspberry out in front, with savory baking spices, subtle smokiness and a touch of herbs lingering in the background.
When you get a taste of this itâs gonna be like the Poseidon Adventure because you are gonna be turning it upside down and flooding your glass with this goodness. Terrifyingly easy to drink!
90 Points - Dan Dawson
âTiny Napa producer Wilson Foreigner acquires old-vine Zinfandel from the town of Oakley and the sandy soils of the Sacramento Delta. Dark strawberry and blueberry compote, fried cinnamon, black pepper and anise smells and flavors are generous. Itâs rich, balanced and goes down smooth and silky. Medium acidity, gentle tannins. This young Zin is ready to enjoy either with food or on its own. You get a lot for your $ here. Wilson Foreigner is a two-family-owned winery. David & Christine Wilson live on their family vineyard in Napaâs Wooden Valley. Chris and Suzaan Alheit live and work in South Africa. They follow the âNew California Wineâ model of unique grapes, mindful vineyard practices and non-intervention winemaking. All of which lead to wines that are intense, energetic and decidedly unique. All that and very fairly priced, too. Get some.â
