Mission Codename Ignited
Happy Sunday you fine looking Operative, you!
Sorry, but we’re on a good one today because Meyer Family is back with a smokin’ hot Oakville offering! There’s a pot roast slow cooking, football on TV, and I’m eagerly waiting to pull the cork on this one tonight. Life is gooood.
Now for the uninitiated, Meyer Family is a super cool, in-the-know boutique winery, you might recognize Justin Meyer as co-founder of SILVER OAK. After Justin’s passing in 2002 the family set their sights on revisiting Oakville Cabernet and purchased Bonny’s Vineyard (cult status source for early Silver Oak) where this Spitfire, and all their Cabernets come from now.
These wines, and in particular the Spitfire, take us back to those early years - lush and structured, highly ageable, with slightly lower alcohol than most of today’s Napa Cab. Both their “Fluffy Billows” Cabernet and this “Spitfire” quickly exploded into two of our most popular Cabernets EVER in 10+ years.
To say this is enjoyable is like saying the aft deck of a 135’ Sunseeker yacht in Saint-Tropez is a nice place to enjoy your quarantine. Immensely satisfying in every way! The wine itself showcases pure, unadulterated fruit - blackberry, red cherry, plum, along with sweet caramel and vanilla oak undertones (Spitfire spends two years in American oak), a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg. Nothing overpowering or syrupy - think Silver Oak Napa in its heyday - a flat out delicious California Cabernet that stands right up to MUCH pricier Oakville counterparts. This is THE prime definition of QPR.
Really, an absolute no-brainer if you love big gun Cabernet.
Back up the truck and grab all you can at this ridiculous price!
